Basic information
The region Abruzzo also Abruzzi is located in central Italy, at the east
of Rome on the Adriatic coast and has a surface area of 10794 km²
and approcimately 1,3 million inhabitants.
The region is divided into 4 provinces, the capital L'Aquila, Chieti, Teramo
and Pescara.

Geographically, this region offers an idyllic
montain landscape, because of the Apennines.
The Apennines protract from nothern Italy to south Italy
over a length of 1500 km.
The Gran Sasso montain massif (2912 meters high) and
the Majella or Maiella give this mountainois area the
characteristic aspect.
The eastern part of the Abruzzo or Abruzzi is located on the Adriatic
Coast and offers beautiful coastal scenery.

Sightseeing
In the region Abruzzo is a small town called Manoppello located
which is worldwide known as a pilgrim city and also visited
by the pope.
In the sanctuary called Santuario di Manopello is kept the
sacred cloth Volto Santo.

The Region Abruzzi is a well known skiing and bathing area and
is annually visited by many tourists. In the so-called
Valle del Sangro (Gorge), where 1921 was launched the Abruzzo
National Park (Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo) and near the
Lake Scanno at Caramanico Terme.
On the montain massifs of the Maiella and the
Gran Sasso you'll find National Parks where nature is very
beautiful and where to find beautiful grottoes to visit.
