Basic information
The region Calabria is located in southern italy
and is known as the toe of Italy. The region has
an area of 15080 km² and approcimately 2 million
inhabitants. Calabria can be descripted as
a peninsula because up to 85% is surrounded
by the Mediterranean Sea only a small piece
of land which borders the Basilicata is not
surrounded by sea.
The region Calabria is divided into 5
provinces, the capital Catanzaro, Reggio di
Calabria, Vibo Valentia, Cosenza and Crotone.

Geographically the mostly of Calabria offers
mountainious and hilly landscapes which ends in
a beautiful coastal landscape on the west
as well as on the east coast partially
of sand consist.
A particularly beautiful coastline is the
so-called Riviera dei Cedri
arising and located between Tortora and Paola
and with a length of about 70 km.
The largest part of the coast however consist of
rocks.

The central area also called Sila consists
of largely woods, meadows, lakes and
clear rivers. The mountain massif
of the Aspromonteoffers
a magnificent view over the Mediterranean Sea
to Sicily and its volcano Mount Etna or
to the Aeolian Islands.

Calabria is regarded as the most important
ferry connection to Sicily, from here,
better said from Villa San Giovanni, you can
see the ferries across to Sicily.
The region offers plenty of nature and culture
and no less a rich history.
Also for beach vacationers Calabria offers
a lot of coastal localities for a nice
vacation or beach holiday.
