The Island Elba is part of the Tuscan Archipelago
in the region of Tuscany (Toscana) in Italy.
The Island has an area of approximately 224 km²
and around 32000 inhabitants. The Island Elba
consists of 8 municipalities, the capital
of the island Portoferraio, Rio nell'Elba,
Capoliveri, Campo nell'Elba, Marciana, Marciana
Marina, Rio Marina und Porto Azzurro.
All communities on the island belong to the
province of Livorno. It is the largest island
in the Tuscan Archipelago and the third largest
of Italy. Elba is good 20 kilometers from the
Italien mainland away.

The island Elba is a popular holiday destination
and has a large number of beautiful coasts.
In the summer months, the population increase
significantly in comparison to other seasons.
Over one year more then 3 million tourists will
visit this beautiful island in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

beautiful turquoise coast of Capobianco.

There are some which say that the island of Elba
is the most beautiful spot in the Tuscany what
can not be entirely true, because geographically
seen Elba once belonged to the Tuscan mainland
and so it has the same landscape which can be
found all across the coast of Tuscany.

Large parts in the east and in the west of the island
belong to the Tuscany National Park
called Parco Nazionale dell'Archipelago Toscano
The capital city of Elba is Portoferraio and
is located in the middle of the northern coast.
There is also the main port along with the port
of Porto Azzurro and Rio Marina.
On the western part of the island you'll find
the Mountain Monte Capanne with 1084 meters, which
offers a magnificent view on the whole environment
of the island Elba.

Elba has for all types of tourists something to offer,
from tourists who likes dwells on the beach or
who likes beautiful coastlines should enjoy
Marina di Campo, which offers the biggest
beach of the island. Also beautiful is the
coast of the Gulf Stella called Golfo Stella
near the small town Lancona at the South coast.

For nature lovers,
hikers, mountain biking and trekking fans
the whole island offers a lot, everywhere
there are beautiful hiking trails and
natural wonderswaiting to be explored.
A large number of varieties of wild
orchids, but also other beautiful flowers, plants
and trees grow in the protected areas of the
Tuscany National Park called Parco Nazionale dell'Archipelago Toscano.

For divers the entire Tuscan Archipelago
is of great interest. There are several diving
schools and diving offers in Portoferraio
(Elbatravel diving or Filo Sub), Rio Marina
(Cavo diving), Campo nell'Elba (Ondasub Mazzarri),
Porto Azzuro (OmniSub) and Marciana Marina where
the Elba Diving Center is located.
For enthusiasts and beginners
of sailboat and kayak the island has also
plenty to offer.
There are various courses, schools and
rental centers in all ports.
On the island you will find all
kinds of Accommodation facilities what
your heart desires or what your wallet allows.

There are 2 stars hotels to 4 stars,
but most hotels have at least 3 stars.
Apartments and cottages can also be rented,
however, you should make sure the
Apartments and the cottages are for
your time to book free, because the demand
during the summer monts is greater than
supply. Holiday camps or villages, there are two
in the municipality called Capoliveri (see on
the middle photo) and in the south-eastern
part of the Elba.
