Basic information
The region Marche is located in central Italy
on the Adriatic coast and has a surface
area of 9694 km² and approximately
1.5 million inhabitants.
The region consists of 5 provinces,
the capital Ancona, Fermo, Macerata,
Ascoli Piceno and Pesaro Urbino.

Geographically the region Marche consists
of a hilly landscape between the Apennines
and the Adriatic coast.
The hightest point in Marche is
the Mountain Vettore (Monte Vettore)
with approximately 2476 meters, the
Monte Vettore makes part of the Sibillini
mountains.
The Marche borders in the north to Emilia-Romagna, in
the west to Tuscany (Toscana) and Umbria, and
in the south to the region Abruzzo.

Sightseeing
The western part of the region are long
mountain ranges and the eastern part
are long sandy beaches of coastal section.
For example in Conero you will find
a very rare cliff of white limestone, which
has small gaps, where over time very beautiful
small beaches has been formed.
A big part of the major cities and towns
of Marche are located near the coast, the inland
region is predominantly agricultural used.
The montains in the western part of the region
consists of limestone with beautiful
canyons and caves which are worth a visit.

Because of the 180 km long coastline,
this region is well known and
a very popular destination for
beach tourists, which visit places with
distinctive nightlife like Senigallia,
Pesaro, Gabicce Mare or
San Benedetto del Tronto.
But there are also very nice places
with less tourism and which are
designed for something more calm.
