Skiing in Italy Italy has a large number of world-class ski resorts which are suitable for a pleasant and eventful ski vacation or skiing holiday. The largest and best known ski resorts are located in northern Italy, and this resorts cover full the area of the Alps and Dolomites.

There are also ski resorts in the middle and south italy due the Apennines who stretch 1500 km across italy with a height of up to 2900 meters in the province L'Aquila in the region Abruzzi (Abruzzo) in central italy.

The highest mountain in this region is the Gran Sasso with 2912 meters, there is for example the winter sports area Campo Imperatore at a altitude of 2200 meters above sea level.

Ski season:

Due to the warm climate in central and southern Italy, the ski season is slightly shorter than in South Tyrol (Trentino-Alto Adige), Lombardy, Veneto and Piedmont. In the northern Alps - Dolomites region, the ski season starts in the month November-December, reached the peak season in January & February and the conclusion in the months of March and April. In some areas such as Marmolada glacier at Belluno in the Veneto it was possible to practice still enjoyable skiing in July 2001 at a altitude of about 3000 meters.
