The Tremiti Islands are a small archipelago in the Adriatic coast in the province of Foggia which belongs to the region of Apulia (Puglia). The archipelago consists of 5 islands called San Domino, San Nicola, Capraia, Pianosa and Cretaccio. There are a total of 365 residents on the Tremiti Archipelago. The entire archipelago is part of the Natural Park Parco Nazionale del Gargano and is since 1991 under nature reserve protection.

Tremiti Inseln

The archipelago is very popular among tourists and is due to the beautiful coastline and crystal clear water well attended. Very popular is the island group also by sailing athletes which explore with their boats the surrounding coastline. The island of San Domino has the only sandy beach of the Tremiti islands and on the island San Nicola are a big part of Tremiti residents.

Coast

Capraia (also called Caprara or Capperaia) is uninhabited and is part of a water conservation area. Cretaccio is also uninhabited and consists largely of chalk and clay which can be quite well recognized by the color of this island. Pianosa is more a islet because of its measures with a maximum height of only 15 meters, this island is uninhabited as well as other smaller islands of this archipelago.

There are 2 small ports at this archipelago, one is the Molo San Nicola and the other port is the Molo San Domino. This small ports and the Tremiti Islands can be reached by ferry or catamaran from the ports in Manfredonia, Vieste, Rodi Garganico, Peschici, Termoli, Vasto, Ortona and Pescara with the ferry companies Tirrenia or Navlib. From Manfredonia to the Tremiti islands there are over 90 kilometers and from Termoli to the archipelago about 50 kilometers.

There is also the possibility to fly from Foggia to the Tremiti Islands by helicopter. On the San Domino island are accomodation facilities such as the Hotel La Vela with 3 stars. It is of course a very small hotel with only 15 rooms but that should be so on a such small island and can not be otherwise. Any kind of mass tourism on this island would be misplaced.
