Basic information

The region of Trentino-Alto Adige is located in northern Italy and borders the Austria and Switzerland. The region has an area of 13619 km² by approximately 950000 inhabitants. Trentino-Alto Adige is divided into 2 provinces, the capital Trento and Bolzano. As well as Sicily (Sicilia), Sardinia (Sardegna), Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Valle d'Aosta is Trentino-Alto Adige autonomous and has special rights and greater freedom provision in the legislation.

Geographically consists this region of mountain landscape and valleys, in which the cities were built and agriculture is operated. The mountainous region of Trentino-Alto Adige is lacated between the Alps and the Dolomites. The highest mountain is the Ortles with 3905 meters, which can be reached over the Mountain called Monte Cevedale with 3769 meters. The mountain Adamello with 3554 meters and the highest mountain at the Dolomites, the Marmolada with 3343 meters.

Trentino-Alto Adige is bordering in the north on Austria and Switzerland, in the east on Friuli-Venezia Giulia and in the west on Lombardy (Lombardia).

In the northern part of the region there is German and a local dialect called Ladin spoken. In the southern part and at the capital Trento there is Italian spoken.

Sightseeing
In the National Park Adamello-Brenta is the Andalo Lake and the Molveno Lake located which are best suited for excursions in a picturesque backdrop provenance. Among the recreational activities are mountaineering, trekking, cycling, canoeing or windsurfing on the Lake Garda. For art and culture interested tourists the region of Trentino-Alto Adige offers many castles wich can be visit like the Museumpalace Buonconsiglio in the town of Trento.
